Hyperpigmentation

By Chris Lancer

If you have the problem of skin discoloration, you could be experiencing quite a common problem known as hyperpigmentation. If you are wondering what the darker skin is a result of then you shoud look up the chemical melanin, which is what determines the color of your skin.

Some of the different forms of hyperpigmentation are as follows: melasma, freckles, liver spots, and age spots. Some dark areas can also be a result of acne, certain injuries and even surgery.

There are a number of factors to consider when trying to determine the cause of dark spots. Here are just a few of them:

-You have too much exposure to the sun

-If you are experiencing hormone changes, this can trigger it. If you are pregnant, then you may see this effect. Known as the mask of pregnancy, the condition called chloasma can be a reason. This effect is a major cause of the overproduction of melanin during pregnancy. Other changes in a person’s life as they get older can up the production of melanin and cause them to experience hyperpigmentation.

-Different types of medicine can result of this. Taking some medicine will cause these side effects and increase your production of melanin, resulting in hyperpigmentation.

-Genetics is also a factor.

Skin creams aren’t the only solution to hyperpigmentation.. there are several other things you can try. There are a number of different things you can try, even a hyperpigmentation treatment or two which can help. You can find a few of the things you can try below:

A hyperpigmentation treatment known as cryotherapy which freezes skin legions. This is helpful for smaller and localized legions.

Laser resurfacing can be sued to leave a healthy coat of skin by removing the first few layers of damanged skin. While this can be effective, it can be expensive. Because of the side effects it is recommended to try other methods before resorting to this.

A form of laser treatment known as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) which heats up the damaged areas to get rid of hyperpigmentation. It is fast and effective to remove localized spots. This does have side effects and is expensive like laser resurfacing.

Another way to peel damaged skin and increase the renewal rate of cells is by chemical peeling. Hydroxy acids are the most common chemicals used for this process. Get a licensed dermatologist if you plan on going this route.

There are some substances that can be used as oral treatments which will pump up antioxidants in your body, like L-glutathoine. These antioxidants will attack free radicals and block melanin production.

Creams and lotions are considered tropical therapies and can be used to help. By applying these treatments, many people have helped manage their hyperpigmentation.

Supplements are used by several people for excess melanin as a means to control it. Vitamins like An and C can promote healthier skin and reduce the darkness of your spots.

Many people use lemon juice to treat their dark spots. Considered nature’s bleach, letting lemon juice soak in will work wonders on treating your skin.

If you look you can still find many more hyperpigmentation treatments available to you. Make sure that you pick the right hyperpigmentation treatment for you and fix your condition.

Hyperpigmentation is a condition that has plagued people for a long time now, so a lot of people think they know how to treat it. So when looking for a hyperpigmentation treatment make sure to do the proper research to get the help you need.
