What is Youki?

How does Youki work?

Ray Yates, 60, who lives in Slough, Berkshire, is managing director of a sign writing company. He suffered a nasty wound when a large lump of metal catapulted into his calf and he needed 18 stitches in casualty.

But the wound stubbornly refused to heal, and both Ray and his GP were becoming increasingly concerned. The wound just wouldn't dry out and close up. After eight months of problems, Ray was introduced to an all-natural spray called Youki, which is made from vegetable extract. He sprayed it on and his wound began to heal almost instantly.

'Everyone was amazed at how quickly it got better after that,' says Ray. 'The medical profession had tried everything for eight months, and failed, whereas this spray worked straight away.'

Youki, which has been developed by a small British company, works on the basis of building a framework for the healing process to take place. It is so powerful that it can help deep and hard-to-heal wounds such as ulcers on legs that are caused by diabetes.

The spray mimics the natural wound-healing process by rapidly building a web across a wound. This allows blood to clot and lays the ground for deep healing.

Vegetables used to develop the healing spray include tomatoes and carrots, which have well-known natural healing properties.

Dr Sujata Jolly, the scientist who developed it, says clinical trials showed the spray worked to heal wounds twice as fast as the normal healing process.

The spray is already being used by a number of hospital staff specialising in wound management.

Myra Gee, a specialist nurse who treats scars at the Highgate Private Clinic in North London, has tried the spray on patients who have had plastic surgery and whose wounds are proving difficult to heal.

'I've found it very useful because it starts the healing process very quickly and you can see results in just a few hours,' she says.

That was certainly Ray Yates's experience. 'Initially, my wound was very nasty,' he says, 'but I thought it would soon close up and disappear.

'But while most of the wound healed within a couple of weeks, one stubborn area refused to close up and became what my GP called ulcerated. You could put your finger right into it.

'Both my GP and I tried every cream and ointment to try heal the wound, but nothing seemed to work.

'Eight months after the initial accident, I bumped into the inventor of Youki when she came into my office to order a sign for her office, which is also in Slough. I knew that she was involved in pharamaceutical products and, in desperation, asked her if she had anything that could help my leg wound.

'The next day she came in with her spray and got me to take off the strapping which my GP had put on my leg. The spray didn't sting at all, and within a couple of hours the wound had started to dry out and heal. 'By the following day a solid layer had built up over the surface, and by the end of the week the wound had healed all the way through.

'Now, I always keep a spray in my office just in case anyone gets a cut.'
